Maimunah bint al-Harith al-Hilaliyyah رضي الله عنها was the last woman the Prophet ﷺ married, in the year 7 AH (628 CE), during the 'Umrat al-Qada' (the Umrah of compensation following the treaty of Hudaybiyyah).
- Birth name: Barrah ("the pious")
- The Prophet ﷺ renamed her: Maimunah ("the blessed")
- Tribe: Hilal ibn Amir
- Maternal aunt of Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما (the great exegete)
- Sister of Umm al-Fadl, wife of Al-'Abbas (uncle of the Prophet ﷺ)
The marriage was concluded at Sarif, about 16 km north of Makkah, when Maimunah was about 36 years old and the Prophet ﷺ 60. She was the last wife he took, 3 years before his death.
Aisha رضي الله عنها said:
> "Maimunah was indeed, among us, the one who feared Allah the most, and the one who most maintained the ties of kinship."
Tabaqat Ibn Sa'd
Maimunah died at Sarif around the year 51 AH (671 CE), at about 80 years old. Having fallen ill in Makkah, she asked, according to the account of Ibn Sa'd:
> "Take me out of Makkah, for I will not die there: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told me that I would not die in Makkah."
Tabaqat Ibn Sa'd
She was carried to Sarif, near the tree under which the Prophet ﷺ had celebrated their marriage 44 years earlier; she died there and was buried there.
