Masjid Al-Ijabah of Makkah is one of the oldest mosques of the holy city, linked by local tradition to the life of the Prophet ﷺ. It is located in the Al-Muhassab district (today called Al-Ma'abada), between Masjid al-Haram and Mina.
⚠️ Not to be confused with Masjid Al-Ijabah in Madinah (also called Masjid Bani Muawiyah), which is a different mosque with a different history.
The story of Khadija رضي الله عنها
Before the Prophethood, this area was a meeting place between the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his wife Sayyida Khadija bint Khuwaylid رضي الله عنها.
During the spiritual retreats of the Prophet ﷺ in the Cave of Hira (Jabal al-Nour), he would stay there whole nights in meditation. Khadija رضي الله عنها, deeply attached to him, regularly brought him food and provisions.
The location of this mosque lies halfway between:
Their house in the Banu Hashim quarter
The Cave of Hira on Jabal al-Nour
It was here that Khadija رضي الله عنها met her beloved husband, showing him her unfailing support during his moments of solitary meditation.

The prayers of the Prophet ﷺ in this place
According to Makkan tradition, the Prophet ﷺ is said to have prayed here at key moments of his mission:
1. During the boycott of the Quraysh (around 616-617 CE, about 6 years before the Hijra)
During the economic boycott imposed by the Quraysh against the Prophet ﷺ, his family (Banu Hashim) and the first Muslims, the Prophet ﷺ is said to have prayed in this place. For 3 years (616-619 CE), the Muslims were starved, isolated in the quarter of Shi'b Abi Talib. The Prophet ﷺ nevertheless continued to pray and to call upon Allah.
2. The day of the Conquest of Makkah (8 AH / 630 CE)
On the day of Fath Makkah, after entering Makkah victoriously, the Prophet ﷺ is said to have prayed in this area, a place linked to his memories with Khadija, who had passed away 11 years earlier in 619 CE.
3. During the Farewell Hajj (10 AH / 632 CE)
During his last pilgrimage, a few months before his passing, the Prophet ﷺ is said to have also stopped here to pray.

The name "Al-Ijabah" (the Acceptance)
The name "Al-Ijabah" means "the acceptance" or "the answer" (from the Arabic root ajāba: to answer, to grant). The name evokes Allah's acceptance of the supplications and prayers made in this sacred place.
⚠️ Important note: Although the name is the same as Masjid Al-Ijabah in Madinah (where the hadith of the 3 supplications took place), the two mosques are distinct and have different histories.
The modern architecture
The original mosque was demolished and rebuilt in a modern style. It covers today about 400 m² and includes:
A central dome
A minaret
Outdoor ablution facilities
Coloured marble finishes (renovation of 2001 / 1422 AH)
The spiritual importance
This mosque bears witness:
To the deep love between the Prophet ﷺ and Khadija رضي الله عنها
To the unconditional support of a wife for her husband in his spiritual mission
To the perseverance of the Prophet ﷺ in the face of trials (boycott, exile, persecution)
To the continuity between the prayers before the Hijra and those after the Conquest
