The night before the Battle of Uhud (3 AH), the Prophet ﷺ camped with his army in an area called Ash-Shaykhayn — "the two elders." The commemorative mosque marks this historic location. (Ibn Hisham · Sîrah)
The night before Uhud
That night, the Prophet ﷺ conducted a final inspection of his troops. He sent back several youths who were not of age to fight, including Abdullah ibn Umar (14 years old, Sahih al-Bukhari no. 4097 · Sahih Muslim no. 1868) and Zayd ibn Thabit (Ibn Hisham · Sîrah).
However, he accepted two youths: Rafi' ibn Khadij, for his skill in archery, then Samurah ibn Jundub, who beat Rafi' at wrestling to prove his strength. (Ibn Hisham · Sîrah)
