BANI GHIFAR MOSQUE

The mosque of the clan of Abu Dharr.

The clan of Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (رضي الله عنه)

This mosque belonged to the clan of Banu Ghifar — a clan of former bandits known on the roads between Mecca and Medina, who converted en masse to Islam thanks to Abu Dharr (رضي الله عنه).

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Ghifar — Allah has forgiven them. And Aslam — Allah has saved them." (Sahih al-Bukhari no. 3504 · Sahih Muslim no. 2515)

Abu Dharr, the fourth convert

Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (رضي الله عنه) was one of the four earliest Muslims. Before Islam, his clan lived by banditry. When Abu Dharr embraced Islam, he returned to his people and converted them all.

The Prophet ﷺ said about him: "The sky has not covered and the earth has not borne one more truthful than Abu Dharr." (Sunan at-Tirmidhi no. 3801 — sahih)
