HOUSE OF SAYYIDA FATIMA BINT AL-HUSAYN
The descendant of the Prophet ﷺ who lived in Medina.
A Descendant of the Lineage of the Prophet ﷺ
Fatima bint al-Husayn (رضي الله عنها) was the daughter of Imam Hussayn (the grandson of the Prophet ﷺ who was martyred at Karbala) and thus the great-granddaughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
She survived the massacre of Karbala (61 AH / 680 CE) — she was a child at the time — and was taken to Damascus with the survivors, then returned to Medina where she lived the rest of her life.
Her House in Medina
She resided in Medina in a home located in Wadi al-Aqiq — the blessed valley. There, she raised her children, transmitted the hadiths she received from her father and family, and passed away.
She is buried in Al-Baqi.
The Importance of Her House
Her house reminds us of:
1. The continuity of the prophetic lineage in Medina after Karbala
2. The role of women in the transmission of religious knowledge
3. The presence of Ahl al-Bayt in the post-prophetic fabric of Medina
