A modern experience
The 4×4 excursion to the summit of Uhud is not a historical site in the classical sense. It is a modern tourist activity organized by local operators who take visitors to the summit of Mount Uhud via paths accessible only by off-road vehicles.
What you can see
From the summit, the panorama is breathtaking:
- The plain of Uhud where the battle took place
- Jabal Ar-Rumat (Mountain of the Archers) below
- Medina to the south, with the minaret of the Green Dome visible
- The cave of Uhud on the northern slopes
- In the distance, Jabal Thawr of Medina (to the north)
A spiritual dimension
Although the activity is modern, climbing to the summit of Uhud takes on a special meaning when remembering this hadith:
"Uhud is a mountain that loves us and that we love. It is on one of the gates of Paradise." (Sahih al-Bukhari · Sahih Muslim)
When you stand at the summit, you stand on one of the gates of Paradise.
