Here, brother, is the battlefield itself — the exact ground where, on 17 Ramadan of the year 2 AH (13 March 624 CE), the two armies met. The ground where Islam nearly disappeared — and where Allah saved it by a miracle recorded forever in the Quran.
Verse 42 of Surah Al-Anfal
> "You were on the near side [of Madinah], and they were on the farther side, and the caravan was lower than you. If you had made an appointment to meet, you would certainly have differed about the time of your meeting, but it was so that Allah might accomplish a matter already destined."
Quran 8:42 (Surah Al-Anfal)
The sacred geography of the miracle
The verse describes with astonishing precision the exact layout of the terrain on the day of Badr:
- 🟢 The Muslims: on al-'Udwah ad-Dunyâ (the side nearest to Madinah), Madinah side
- 🔴 The Quraysh: on al-'Udwah al-Quswâ (the farther side), on the Makkah side
- 🪂 The caravan of Abu Sufyan: lower down, towards the Red Sea
- 70 disbelievers killed (including Abu Jahl — the Pharaoh of this ummah)
- 70 disbelievers captured
- 14 Muslims martyred
The miracle of the water
The night before the battle, Allah sent rain:
> "When He overwhelmed you with drowsiness as a security from Him, and sent down upon you water from the sky to purify you, to remove from you the defilement of Satan, to strengthen your hearts and to make firm your footsteps."
Quran 8:11
This rain refreshed the Muslims, firmed up the sand beneath their feet, and softened the ground on the Quraysh side.
The miracle of the angels
In the heart of the fighting, Allah sent invisible armies:
> "When you were asking help of your Lord and He answered you at once: 'I will reinforce you with a thousand angels, following one another.'"
Quran 8:9
> "I am with you: so strengthen the believers. I will cast terror into the hearts of the disbelievers."
Quran 8:12
The gesture that changed the battle
Before the fighting, the Prophet ﷺ picked up a handful of sand and threw it towards the Quraysh, saying: "May their faces be disfigured!" And every Quraysh got sand in his eyes. Allah immortalised this moment:
> "It was not you [believers] who killed them, but it was Allah who killed them. And when you [O Prophet] threw [a handful of earth], it was not you who threw, but it was Allah who threw."
Quran 8:17
