QUBA CASTLE
The palace that overlooked the palm groves.
A Forgotten Fortress
In the area of Quba, next to the first mosque in Islam, there once existed a castle or fortress (qasr) that overlooked the palm groves. Today, only discreet remnants or traditional sites remain.
The precise historical context of this castle remains partially obscure. According to various sources:
- Some chroniclers attribute it to the pre-Islamic era, as one of the many fortresses (atams) of the tribes of Medina.
- Others see it as an Umayyad or Abbasid construction, erected to oversee the agricultural area of Quba.
Why Visit
Honestly, this site does not have a direct prophetic narrative. It is an archaeological site that reminds us of:
1. The historical density of the Quba area.
2. The presence of the elites of Medina in this area at different times.
3. The urban continuity of southern Medina over the centuries.
Note of Sincerity
Visit Arabia acknowledges that the sources on this castle are fragmentary. It is rather a secondary archaeological point of interest than a major spiritual site. Presented as such, without exaggeration.
