WELL OF AL-MUSHAYRIB

An ancient well among the wells.

A Secondary Well of Medina

Bi'r al-Mushayrib is one of the many historical wells of Medina, mentioned by classical chroniclers but without a major prophetic narrative linked to its precise location.

The name Al-Mushayrib comes from the root sh-r-b which means "to drink" — it was a well where people drank, frequented by travelers and locals.

The Culture of Wells in Medina

Medina was interwoven with wells. Each clan, each important family, each neighborhood had its own well. It was the foundation of agricultural and urban life.

The Prophet ﷺ said: "The best act of charity is water." (Sunan Ibn Majah n°3684)

Bi'r al-Mushayrib is part of this tradition of water-charity.

Without a Famous Narrative, but a Trace of Daily Life

This well does not have a famous hadith. No major event. But it is part of the living memory of Medina — where people queued to fill a jar, where women met to chat, where children played near the water.
